Axcis Education is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded SEND school in Bromley this October. This specialist school supports pupils aged 7-19 and is well known for its nurturing environment, excellent facilities, and strong commitment to helping children and young people with additional needs achieve their full potential.
This rewarding role will involve supporting pupils within a small Key Stage 2 (KS2) class alongside an experienced SEND Teacher. You will work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language needs, communication difficulties, and complex learning needs, helping them access learning and develop essential social and communication skills.
Candidates with experience using Makaton and/or PECS are highly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
- Support children with Autism (ASD), communication difficulties, and complex learning needs
- Use Makaton, PECS, and other communication strategies to promote engagement and interaction
- Assist pupils in accessing classroom activities and achieving their learning goals
- Support language, communication, emotional regulation, and social development
- Implement positive behaviour support strategies
- Build positive relationships with pupils, teachers, therapists, and families
- Help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
The Ideal Candidate:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, Autism (ASD), speech and language needs, or complex needs
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, AAC, or alternative communication methods is desirable
- Experience working in a school, special school, childcare, care, or support setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, resilient, and positive approach
- The ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Relevant qualifications in Teaching Assistance, SEND, Childcare, Psychology, Education, or Health & Social Care are desirable
