Job summary

Are you motivated, enthusiastic and want to make a real difference to patient care? Athelon Ward is a 14 bedded, mixed gender Acute Mental Health ward situated in Worcester and part of the provision of acute inpatient services across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

It is a vital service for supporting those with acute mental health difficulties of varying complexities. Athelon Ward has recently relocated to Worcester resulting in a new, therapeutic ward environment to enhance patient experience, and improve ward safety.

Athelon operates a rotational shift pattern system over 24 hours / seven-day period. Please note the Trust will not routinely provide sponsorship to work for this role. Employment on a time limited visa doesn't guarantee sponsorship at point of expiry.

Main duties of the job We are currently looking for dynamic, caring, and innovative health care assistants to make a genuine difference to patients, and their families, throughout their inpatient journey.

You will assist the nursing team in maintaining high standards of patient care, ensuring patients individuality and privacy are maintained at all times. You will assist and participate in activities to meet occupation and psychological needs of the patients in your care.

Person Specification

Experience Essential Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids. Experience of working in a care environment. Knowledge Essential Good written and verbal English skills.

Can demonstrate an understanding of how to promote independence and facilitate learning in others. Desirable Ability to demonstrate knowledge of MHA issues.

Additional Criteria Essential I understand that the Trust will not routinely provide sponsorship to work for this role, and employment on a time limited visa doesn't guarantee sponsorship at point of expiry. Skills and Abilities Essential Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in both verbal and written formats.

Treat patients with respect and dignity. Ensure that own actions support equality, diversity, rights and quality. Ability to follow a clear instruction and feed back to senior staff.

Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing, etc.). Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative.

Able to work with minimal supervision. Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

Essential Vocational qualification level 3 or equivalent / level 2 qualification in care and willing to undertake relevant level 3 qualification upon appointment, or equivalent qualification or experience.

Will be expected to meet the Care Certificate standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment with the Trust Management of Actual and Potential Aggression (MAPA) training. I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
