Multi Systemic Therapy (MST) Therapist

Multi Systemic Therapy (MST) is coming to North Tyneside!

This is an exciting opportunity to join North Tyneside's Children's Services and to be part of the Team which establishes, develops and leads MST. MST is a specialist, evidence-based service which aims to prevent children going into care or custody and to support children to safely return home from children's homes or foster care arrangements. MST is an established model which works closely with young people, families and partners including health, education, police, and community networks to prevent children becoming children in our care and to enable children to return home safely. 

We are looking to recruit an MST Supervisor and 3 MST therapists to create the new MST Team in North Tyneside.

The MST therapist will undertake assessments and interventions directly with families and partners to support young people and prevent them entering care or custody, and to enable them to return home safely. All direct work with families and partners is provided within the MST model

You will: 

• Deliver intensive, home-based interventions to children, young people and their families.
• Complete assessments and develop tailored plans that promote positive change.
• Strengthen parenting skills, family relationships and emotional wellbeing.
• Work closely with schools, partner agencies and wider support networks.
• Support children to return home safely from any care arrangement (Children’s homes or foster care arrangements)
• Work directly with families and partners to prevent children from going into care or custody
• Manage a caseload of families and maintaining accurate case records.
• Participate in regular clinical supervision and training to maintain high-quality practice.
• Contribute to a 24/7 on-call rota to support families during periods of crisis.
• Work closely with MST consultants and national programme leads to maintain model fidelity and achieve service objectives.

The successful candidate

You will be a highly skilled and experienced professional with: 

• A recognised professional qualification in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Nursing, Systemic Practice or another relevant discipline.
• Significant experience working with children, young people and families with complex needs.
• Knowledge of child development, trauma and safeguarding.
• Skills and experience in delivering evidence-based interventions and managing risk.
• Strong communication skills and excellent relationship-building skills.
• The ability to work independently, flexibly and as part of a team.
• A commitment to evidence-based practice and achieving positive outcomes for children and families. Experience of delivering or supervising MST or other intensive family intervention programmes is desirable, although training in the MST model will be provided.
