At Ormiston Latimer Academy and Ormiston Beachcroft Academy, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive, whatever challenges they face. As a School Engagement Mentor, you will lead our Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) mentoring programme, working directly with vulnerable pupils aged 13–16 who are at risk of disengaging from education and becoming NEET.

Through 1:1 and small group mentoring, you will help pupils rebuild their confidence, improve their attendance and behaviour, and develop the resilience and employability skills they need to succeed. You will work closely with academy staff, families and external agencies to support successful transitions into further education, training or employment, and play a key role in shaping the ongoing development of the mentoring programme across both academies.

Why you?

You are passionate about improving the life chances of vulnerable young people and have experience mentoring, coaching or working with pupils in Alternative Provision, PRUs or similar settings. You build trusted relationships with pupils, families and professionals through strong communication, empathy and emotional intelligence, and you know how to tailor your approach to individual needs.

You will have:

• Experience working with young people facing disengagement, behavioural difficulties or safeguarding concerns
• A track record of mentoring, coaching or youth work, ideally in Alternative Provision, PRUs or a similar setting
• The ability to manage a caseload, maintain accurate records and evaluate the impact of your work
• A collaborative approach, working confidently with pastoral teams, SEND staff, families and external agencies

Located in Kensington & Chelsea, Ormiston Latimer Academy provides a caring environment based on integrity, mutual respect, and understanding. It seeks to reignite passion in education and aspiration. Each learner is treated as an individual and is supported to develop within an environment that develops a love of learning and the ability to create social and emotional skills fit for the world outside of education.

The main provision at Latimer is for secondary learners, but we have primary provision on site, along with a managed intervention centre and outreach service. Our learners are at risk of or have been excluded from mainstream settings.
