About the role

NHS Tayside Pharmacy Services are seeking two Pharmacy Technicians to join our Clinical Pharmacy Team at Ninewells Hospital. These are fast-paced, interesting and challenging roles central to delivering safe, effective, and person-centred care for patients across a range of inpatient services.

As a Pharmacy Technician registered with the GPhC, you will play a vital role in supporting medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, medicines optimisation and safe medicines governance. You will work as part of integrated multidisciplinary teams, contributing to safe and timely patient care while helping to reduce medicines waste and unnecessary expenditure.

These roles provide opportunities for full medicines management training, so prior experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in the transferable skills you can bring to the team, such as communication, organisation, attention to detail, and teamwork. We are committed to your ongoing professional development and will support further training to help you reach your full potential.

You will also contribute to a positive work culture, supporting colleagues, working collaboratively in a dynamic team, and demonstrating professional leadership within your role. Your work will directly impact the efficiency of our services and the safety and experience of our patients.

Appointment Requirements

To be appointed at Band 5, applicants must meet all requirements of the person specification, including successful completion of the VT Foundation Framework or have demonstratable equivalent experience working as a band 5.

*We will also consider applications from candidates who do not yet meet the full person specification. In these cases, successful applicants will be appointed on a Band 4 salary and supported to achieve the required competencies, including completion of the VT Foundation Framework or equivalent training. Once all criteria are met, the post will be upgraded to Band 5.

Our Impact

By joining us, you will contribute to NHS Tayside’s ambitions under the Quadruple Aim:

  • Patient experience: ensuring safe and timely medicines support at admission and discharge
  • Population health: promoting safer and more effective use of medicines
  • Staff experience: working in a supportive team, developing skills, and fostering a positive culture
  • Value: reducing medicines waste, avoiding unnecessary expenditure, and supporting efficient use of NHS resourcesWhat We Are Looking For

  • A personal and professional approach that puts patients at the centre of care
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team
  • Professional development and supporting service improvement initiatives
  • A commitment to helping reduce medicines waste and optimise NHS resourcesOur Commitment

At NHS Tayside we are guided by the NHS Scotland values of care and compassion, dignity and respect, openness, honesty and responsibility, and quality and teamwork. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in our workforce.
