About the role
Job summary
As a member of the Operational Excellence team, you will support the development and delivery of quality assurance, risk and governance processes across the division. You will provide effective support to the Assurance, Risk and Governance Leads, working closely with operational units and key stakeholders to ensure processes are well coordinated and delivered effectively.
The role also includes providing an efficient secretariat service across the division, including organising meetings, maintaining records and supporting a range of administrative systems. Excellent IT skills are essential, particularly experience in designing and maintaining spreadsheets and managing information across different systems.
This is a challenging and varied role that requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to build effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Job description
The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) became an Arm's Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) on 1st June 2026.
The BSR is a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees are Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants.
All employees will have access to:

Existing Civil Servants transferring into BSR will have their continuity of Service recognised for the purposes of sick pay and annual leave entitlement. This would be subject to that department’s own policies and arrangements.
Key Responsibilities:
You will work within the Operational Excellence Team supporting the work of the team and the wider BSD Operational Units to enable them to manage quality assurance, risk and governance successfully.
As a Risk, Assurance and Governance Officer, you will provide a range of support including:
- Providing complex administrative and secretariat support across a range of internal meetings.
- Management of shared inboxes and calendars.
- Deliver accurate and high-quality papers, briefings, and minutes within agreed deadlines, ensuring compliance with governance and organisational assurance requirements.
- Maintaining governance registers and logs, ensuring accuracy and reporting requirements are followed when required.
- Ensuring governance processes are followed, in compliance with statutory timeframes and internal policies.
- Proactively seek creative solutions to challenges and opportunities, in line with your role and responsibilities.
Person specification
Essential Skills and Criteria:
- Demonstrable awareness and understanding of quality assurance, risk management and/or governance processes and procedures.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to organise and manage workloads effectively, including planning, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrable experience of handling sensitive and confidential information appropriately, exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
- Experience of working effectively both independently and as part of a team, with confidence in engaging with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
- A flexible and responsive approach to organisational change and evolving business priorities.
Hybrid Working
At BSR, we are proud to be able to offer our people the opportunity to work in a hybrid way which combines working from home and the office. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement, and your allocated office will be your contractual place of work.
There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 60% of your working week. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

The sift will take place from the week commencing Monday 5th of October where you will be scored on your Personal Statement and Lead Behaviour Statement on 'Managing a Quality Service'.
IMPORTANT : Please note, In the event of a high number of applications at sift, an initial sift will be conducted on your Lead Behaviour Statement. If you meet the benchmark for the Lead Behaviour element, you will be progressed to a full sift in which the Personal Statement will also be scored. If you do not meet the standard for the Lead Behaviour Statement, you will not receive a score for your Personal Statement.
Interview Information
Interviews will take place the week commencing Monday 2nd of November when you will be assessed against the Behaviours detailed within the job advert.
The Lead Behaviour 'Managing a Quality Service' will be used in the event of a tie-break.
