Ready for a clinical career that looks a little different? You've spent years building your clinical knowledge, assessment skills and confidence supporting people with a wide range of health conditions.
You don't need to leave those skills behind to change your working life.
We're recruiting Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Paramedics across the Brighton region who are ready to move away from traditional hands-on or frontline clinical practice and into a PIP Functional Assessor position.
No previous Functional Assessor experience is required. Your existing healthcare experience provides the clinical foundation and full training is provided to prepare you for the role.
The package
- £45,000 starting salary
- Increase to £46,000 after 6 months
- Increase to £47,000 after 12 months
- Monday to Friday
- Hybrid working
- Permanent position
- No traditional clinical shift patterns
- Full training provided
- Ongoing professional development
Your clinical experience already gives you more transferable skills than you might think. Think about what you do now.
- You assess people.
- You gather clinical information.
- You explore how health conditions affect someone's mobility, independence and ability to manage everyday activities.
- You ask appropriate questions, communicate sensitively, review evidence, document your findings and use professional judgement.
- Those skills sit right at the heart of Functional Assessment.
The difference is how you'll use them.
What will you actually be doing?
- As a PIP Functional Assessor , you'll speak with people who have a range of physical and mental health conditions and explore how those conditions affect their everyday lives.
- You'll conduct structured assessments by telephone, video and/or face-to-face, gathering relevant information and reviewing available medical evidence.
- Using your existing clinical knowledge and assessment skills, you'll then produce a clear, accurate and evidence-based report.
- This is not a treatment role.
- You won't provide ongoing clinical care, rehabilitation or emergency treatment, and you won't make the final decision about whether somebody receives PIP.
- Your responsibility is to complete a thorough assessment, understand the functional impact of the person's condition and report your findings. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) makes the final decision regarding benefit entitlement.
Changing direction doesn't mean starting your career again!
Moving into Functional Assessment can feel like a big career change, particularly when you've spent years developing your clinical expertise.
But you're not starting from zero.
Your ability to assess, listen, investigate, understand function, interpret clinical information and make professional judgements is exactly what gives you the foundation for this role.
You'll receive structured training to help you adapt those existing skills to Functional Assessment, including evidence gathering, structured consultations and professional report writing.
- You'll still assess.
- You'll still communicate.
- You'll still use your clinical judgement.
- You'll simply be using those skills in a different way.
