Clinical counselling Supervisor

Launching in September 2026 by Havant and East Hants Mind, Instil Hope counselling service, is committed to providing high-quality, affordable and specialist counselling services that are inclusive, compassionate and accessible to people across our communities helping to reduce barriers to counselling support and therapy.

We are seeking an experienced Counselling Supervisor to join our team on a volunteer or self-employed basis to provide clinical supervision to both trainee placement counsellors and qualified practitioners. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of a brand-new service, ensuring counsellors feel supported, confident and safe in their practice while maintaining the highest standards of client care.

As Counselling Supervisor, you will facilitate regular group supervision sessions, support counsellors in managing complex presentations and safeguarding concerns, and help embed a culture of reflective practice, learning and professional growth. Working closely with the Counselling Coordinator, you will contribute to the quality, consistency and ongoing development of the service.

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a recognised qualification in counselling, psychotherapy and clinical supervision
• Is accredited with BACP, UKCP or an equivalent professional body
• Has a minimum of three years' post-qualification counselling experience
• Has experience supervising counsellors within a counselling or mental health setting
• Demonstrates a strong understanding of safeguarding, ethical practice and risk management
• Possesses excellent communication, reflective and interpersonal skills
• Is passionate about supporting counsellor development and maintaining high standards of practice

Purpose of Post

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Counselling Supervisor to support the development and delivery of a new counselling service provided by Havant & East Hants Mind.

The Counselling Supervisor will play a vital role in ensuring counsellors feel supported, confident and equipped to provide safe, ethical and effective therapeutic support to clients accessing the service.

The postholder will provide regular clinical group supervision to both trainee and qualified counsellors, creating a reflective space that promotes professional development, wellbeing and high standards of practice. They will support practitioners in managing complex cases, safeguarding concerns and ethical dilemmas, while helping to ensure that counselling delivery remains safe, consistent and aligned with professional frameworks and organisational policies.

Working closely with the Counselling Coordinator and wider leadership team, the postholder will contribute to quality assurance, service development and continuous improvement. They will foster a culture of learning, accountability and compassion, ensuring both practitioners and clients benefit from a counselling service that is inclusive, responsive and grounded in the values of Havant & East Hants Mind.

Key Responsibilities and duties:

• Provide regular face-to-face and online group clinical supervision.
• Ensure practice aligns with the BACP Ethical Framework and HEH Mind organisational policies.
• Support counsellors in managing complex cases and safeguarding concerns.
• Maintain accurate, confidential supervision records in line with GDPR and HEH Mind confidentiality requirements.
• Liaise with Counselling Co-ordinator to ensure quality and consistency of service delivery.
• To act within HEH Mind’s mission and values and all policies and procedures, including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety. Comply with relevant external standards and Quality Marks.

Knowledge and Experience

• Recognised qualification in counselling/psychotherapy and supervision.
• Accreditation with BACP, UKCP, or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification counselling experience.
• Experience supervising practitioners in counselling service settings.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures.
• Commitment to working within the guidelines set out by the BACP Ethical Framework
• Understanding of Data Protection Regulations
• Understanding of the third sector and charities

Pay: £60.00-£65.00 per hour
