Senior Consultant - SAS Engineer (Migration and Delivery) at Analytium Ltd in Southampton

About the role

Analytium Ltd is a boutique UK data and analytics consultancy focused on SAS modernisation, cloud data platforms, and BI. We deliver enterprise programmes for major clients, including a UK tier-one bank, and our team is currently embedded in the modernisation of one of the largest SAS estates in the country. With 150 projects delivered for 50 clients, we have built our reputation on solving difficult technical problems with speed, precision, and a practical delivery mindset.

This role exists because the work has outgrown the current team. The environment combines governed model code with several thousand ungoverned Enterprise Guide scripts created over many years by business users, with little documentation to rely on. It is a setting where technical depth, judgement, and the ability to create leverage matter.

As a Senior Consultant - SAS Engineer (Migration and Delivery), you will help drive a high-impact migration programme in a complex enterprise environment. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys bringing structure to ambiguity, working through messy legacy estates, and applying modern engineering approaches to large-scale delivery challenges. You will operate close to real client problems, helping turn undocumented, business-critical SAS workloads into governed, reliable outcomes while contributing to a team that works AI-first and builds its own accelerators to move faster.

Responsibilities

  • Focus primarily on the ungoverned Enterprise Guide script workload and bring governance to it.
  • Reverse-engineer undocumented code written by others.
  • Explain the behaviour of complex legacy code clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Use AI-assisted tooling to accelerate delivery and make sound production fixes where needed.
  • Automate parts of the engineering workflow using AI-assisted tools.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Deep experience working within a real SAS estate, with strong expertise across Base SAS, macro language, PROC SQL, implicit SQL, Enterprise Guide, and SAS runtime behaviour.
  • Working-strength Python skills to convert SAS logic, write tests, and prove output equivalence, alongside strong SQL and relational database fundamentals, including interpreting query plans.
  • Hands-on Databricks experience, including Delta Lake, notebooks, cluster behaviour, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to reverse-engineer undocumented code written by others and explain its behaviour clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience shipping production work where an AI coding tool did most of the typing, with a clear understanding of what needed to be fixed to make it reliable.
  • Evidence of having automated part of your own job using AI-assisted tooling.
  • Able to travel occasionally to the Hampshire base.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PySpark, Teradata, or SAS Grid / platform-side SAS engineering.
  • Exposure to credit risk modelling, including IFRS 9, IRB, PD, LGD, EAD, capital calculation, stress testing, and model monitoring.
  • Experience with financial services regulatory reporting and model risk management.
  • Familiarity with model validation and model documentation.
  • Able to start by mid-November.

Benefits

  • Salary of GBP 70,000-85,000
  • Discretionary annual bonus scheme
