The Role

We are seeking a Principal Project Engineer to serve as project technical lead delivering complex SCADA/EMS/GMS/ADMS solutions using AspenTech’s Digital Grid Management (DGM) products for utility customers. You will be accountable for end-to-end technical delivery, including architecture, integration, validation, commissioning, and operational handover, while mentoring team members on your projects and contributing to shared best practices. Experience with monarch is preferred.

Your Impact

  • Technical leadership of projects: Define solution architectures and integration approach for assigned project(s); lead technical decisions, design reviews, and quality gates within scope to ensure robust, scalable outcomes.
  • Plan, design, integrate, and validate: Plan and execute detailed design and integration; establish verification approaches and lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) with traceability to requirements.
  • Commissioning & stabilization: Oversee commissioning and cutover plans, perform advanced troubleshooting for complex variances in production environments, and ensure timely deployment of resolutions.
  • Project team guidance: Provide day‑to‑day technical direction to engineers and partners on your projects, promoting reusability and delivery discipline.
  • Customer & stakeholder engagement: Work directly with utility SMEs and project managers to refine requirements, manage technical changes, and ensure performance, reliability, and operability targets are met.
  • Engineering excellence: Apply and uphold established standards for configuration management, environment readiness, and documentation; contribute improvements and reusable assets.
  • Enablement & knowledge sharing: Mentor peers, assist with training materials, and share best practices within the project team and local group.
  • Strategic pre‑sales engagement: On an as‑needed basis, provide technical validation of delivery approaches and limited support for customer evaluations/demos on priority pursuits.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience in utility operations/dispatch, real-time control systems, or mission-critical OT/IT integration, with a track record of serving as project technical lead on complex deliveries.
  • Experience delivering systems across SCADA/EMS/GMS/ADMS; monarch experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on depth with client/server applications, network communications, and Linux/Windows; familiarity with programming/scripting (e.g., Python, C/C++) and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Mongo, Cassandra); experience with JSON and XML.
  • Practical experience with common utility protocols and standards (e.g., ICCP, DNP3, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, MultiSpeak).
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and leadership skills within project teams; able to manage multiple workstreams in fast‑paced environments; strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to travel up to approximately 20%.
