North Kent Mind is seeking a dedicated and strategic Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees and help guide the financial sustainability of a leading local mental health charity. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your financial expertise to support people experiencing mental health challenges across North Kent and Medway.
About North Kent Mind
North Kent Mind is an independent local mental health charity affiliated with national Mind. We provide a wide range of services supporting adults, children and young people, including counselling, crisis support, employment services, housing support and wellbeing programmes.
Our vision is simple: we won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health challenge gets both support and respect.
With around 100 staff, more than 40 volunteers and an experienced Board of Trustees, we are committed to improving mental health outcomes, reducing inequalities and building resilient communities.
About the Role
As Treasurer, you will provide strategic financial leadership to the Board, helping ensure the charity remains financially resilient, well governed and able to deliver its mission.
The Treasurer serves as a Trustee and Company Director and works closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and Finance Lead. You will also chair the Finance Sub-Committee and oversee financial governance, risk management and long-term financial planning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic financial oversight and guidance to the Board
- Supporting effective governance and regulatory compliance
- Reviewing budgets, financial reports, reserves and risk management arrangements
- Chairing the Finance Sub-Committee
- Helping the Board make informed decisions on financial matters
- Ensuring transparency, accountability and strong financial controls
- Supporting the long-term sustainability of the charity
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a collaborative and strategic leader who can bring sound judgement, constructive challenge and strong financial expertise.
You will ideally have:
- A professional accounting qualification or equivalent senior financial experience
- Significant experience in financial management, accounting or auditing
- Experience reviewing financial statements and management accounts
- Strong analytical and evaluation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- An understanding of charity finance, fundraising or not-for-profit governance (desirable)
- A genuine commitment to mental health and wellbeing
- A connection to Kent through living or working in the area
Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.
Time Commitment
- Board meetings every two months
- Finance Sub-Committee meetings every two months
- Occasional Investment Committee involvement
- Additional preparation and support as required
The appointment is for an initial three-year term , with the possibility of serving up to three terms.

This is an unpaid voluntary position; however, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
