We are seeking Maintenance Operatives to join our Housing Standards Team. In this role, you will deliver vital maintenance and improvement services to keep our community safe and comfortable across the county.

About Our Service

Our Maintenance team manages the Council’s social housing portfolio of approximately 8,400 dwellings. We ensure every home meets all current statutory, regulatory, and legislative standards.

The role

The core focus of this role is to carry out essential repairs and maintenance works on social housing stock to ensure they meet the Decent Housing Standards, complying with current regulatory standards and timescales.

This is a customer focused mobile role completing day to day repairs/maintenance in our tenanted properties. All our trades operate autonomously using mobile technology to receive all their work instructions.

 As a maintenance operative, you will :

  • Carry out housing repairs relevant to your trade
  • Record and monitor supplied equipment as necessary
  • Work to expected Health & Safety standards and safe systems of work
  • Undertake professional, mandatory and skills-based training
  • Carry out maintenance and repair work, and repairs in associated trades 
  • Record and monitor supplied equipment as necessary

The role will come with a vehicle, you will be responsible for carrying out routine vehicle safety checks as required and must ensure compliance with requirements relating to vehicle use and maintenance.  

What you will bring

  • Relevant qualifications and proven experience in a specialist trade relating to housing operations
  • Confident working in residential properties with standard maintenance tools and machinery
  • Clear, polite, and professional communication with residents and team members at all levels
  • Good understanding of current Health & Safety and Building Regulations
  • Good working knowledge of other trades linked to your primary role
  • Ability to participate in an out-of-hours emergency standby rota
