Specialist Paediatric Dietitian

Job summary

The Paediatric Dietetic team at Cambridge University NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, experienced dietitian who works well as part of a team as well as independently and is looking to increase their skills within the specialist area of paediatric obesity as a 0.6wte fixed term/secondment for up to a year as maternity leave cover.

You will be supported by an experienced band 7 Paediatric Obesity Dietitian and work alongside another band 6 Paediatric Dietitian as part this exciting role in the Complications of Excess Weight (CEW) service. The service supports Children and Young People (CYP) aged up 2 to 17 years with complications related to their excess weight.

You will be vital in helping deliver an international and nationally recognised biopsychosocial model of care and contributing to the evolving service.

The CEW service is part of the NHS England pilot, aiming to make positive changes to their physical and mental health, improving relationships with food and eating behaviours and contribute to lifestyle changes that promote a healthier weight.

There are opportunities to be involved in producing research, contributing to a national database and piloting new and creative strategies.

This is a unique opportunity to be an integrated part of a welcoming and award nominated MDT which includes: Consultants, Nurses, Data co-ordinator, Psychology, Family Support Worker and a Family Therapist.

Main duties of the job To act as part of the dietetic team and in conjunction with existing paediatric dietitians provide specialist dietetic services to the Addenbrooke's Children's Services and other external agencies and hospitals as appropriate.

To work within a multi professional framework and contribute to a first class service through evidence based clinical practice, management, education, research and audit. To set and work toward individual and team objectives that reflect corporate plans and work within the clinical governance framework.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential State registered dietitian. Appropriate degree/diploma to post graduate level such as Diploma in Advanced Dietetic practice or equivalent level of knowledge or experience. GSCE English or equivalent.

Evidence of continuous professional development. Desirable Training/further study. BDA Paediatric Group Member.

Working towards Masters in Paediatric Practice. Experience Essential Demonstrate good general experience. Genuine interest in paediatrics.

Proven development work. Experience of formal/informal teaching. Desirable Paediatric Experience.

Obesity Experience. MDT work. Student training experience.

Talks and Group work. Knowledge Essential Understanding of evidence based practice. Up to date with current issues in dietetics including current paediatric topics.

Understanding of paediatric obesity and the MDT approach. Desirable Appreciates own limitations. Skills Essential Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Works well in a team and demonstrates potential to work on own initiative. Time management skills, organised and able to manage a busy workload. Be prepared to deal with sensitive issues.

Be able to concentrate through occasionally distressing and emotional interviews. Able to convey complex ideas in easily understood language. Be able to function in clinical situations with many people present.
