About the role
Job summary
A full time (10 PA) substantive post, as a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with unselected general medicine on call (excluding acute cardiology and acute stroke) is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust based at both Wycombe Hospital and Stoke Mandeville Hospital (SMH).
The successful applicant will join 8 enthusiastic, friendly and forward-thinking Respiratory Consultants, who work in a cohesive unit.
We are looking for someone with passion to be part of the lung cancer team carrying out diagnostics of bronchoscopic and pleural procedures and taking part in the cancer MDT as well as outpatient management, including our new lung screening service (Lung Cancer Screening).
We welcome those with skills to expand our current service for the future, including radial EBUS, pleural biopsy, IPC placement, and thoracoscopy. The successful candidate can be supported to develop skills during the job, from current consultants and Interventional Radiology.
Please note that the JD for this post is not RCP approved in line with their new process. Main duties of the job The Respiratory team won the Trust award of Acute Healthcare team of the Year; and the Consultant Lead won the Trust Leadership award in 2021.
We are looking to expand to provide a training for our formal Respiratory Specialist Unit for NIV, which is in place now; to aid our admission avoidance service; and to support respiratory outpatients to.
All applicants within 6 months of CCT at interview date are welcome and all other subspecialist interests would be considered, and mentored. Less than full time working will be considered and welcomed.
The Respiratory Team has approximately 45 inpatients. 2 consultants run the 2 wards on rotation. 3 registrars and 2 IMT from the HETV/Oxford rotation and 9 juniors support the wards.
We provide COPD and COVID early supported discharge. We have weekend daytime on call for the respiratory wards giving 7/7 Respiratory cover; and take part in the acute general medicine on call during the week.
There has been a large investment in Acute Medicine with a reconfiguration of the urgent care pathway, and appointment of new Acute Physicians. Sub-specialty outpatient clinics exist for lung cancer, pleural, cough/airways and TB.
We work very much as a team of consultants with MDT meetings, and have commitment to teaching all grades of doctors.

Person Specification
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS Essential MBBS or equivalent GMC registerable qualifications and MRCP all parts oCCT in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine or within six months of achieving CCT at the time of the interview.
Desirable Higher degree PhD or MD or equivalent- desirable EXPERIENCE Essential General training in Respiratory Medicine to specialist level or equivalent Bronchoscopy skills to CCT level Pleural Ultrasound Skills to Level 1 Ability to make decisions at consultant level Desirable 5 years WTE minimum CLINICAL AND TECHNICAL SKILLS Essential Demonstration of strong leadership skills Good spoken and written English Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees Experience of routine clinical audit GMC Registration Desirable Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and the Government's agenda for its modernisation Computing skills: ability to use word processor, spreadsheet programme and web browser.
