Job summary

Karis Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic Newly Qualified Pharmacist to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified pharmacist looking to develop a career within General Practice and Primary Care.

Working alongside experienced GPs and clinicians, you will receive appropriate supervision, support and development to build your confidence and clinical skills.

As part of our clinical team, you will contribute to medicines optimisation, medication reviews, repeat prescribing processes, medicines reconciliation and prescribing safety initiatives, whilst supporting patients to use their medicines safely and effectively.

Working alongside GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team, the postholder will assist with medication reviews, medicines reconciliation, repeat prescribing processes, prescribing safety initiatives and responding to medicines-related queries.

The role will involve supporting patients to use their medicines safely and effectively, reviewing medication following hospital discharge, contributing to medicines optimisation and assisting with clinical audits and quality improvement activities.

This position is designed to support a newly qualified pharmacist entering General Practice, with structured supervision, training and development opportunities. Responsibilities will increase progressively in line with experience, competence and professional development.

Job Summary

Karis Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Newly Qualified Pharmacist to join our friendly and supportive multidisciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified pharmacist wishing to develop a career within General Practice and Primary Care.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced GPs and other healthcare professionals, receiving appropriate supervision, support and training to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence within a primary care setting.

The role offers the opportunity to gain experience in medicines optimisation, medication reviews, prescribing safety, repeat prescribing processes and multidisciplinary working whilst contributing to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.

Main

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will gradually develop responsibility for: Undertaking medication reviews with appropriate clinical supervision. Supporting the practice with medication queries from patients and healthcare professionals. Reviewing medicines following discharge from hospital and outpatient appointments.

Supporting medicines reconciliation and ensuring medication changes are accurately reflected within patient records. Reviewing repeat medication requests and supporting safe repeat prescribing processes. Identifying and resolving medicines-related issues.

Supporting patients to understand and use their medicines safely and effectively. Working with GPs and other clinicians to improve medicines optimisation. Supporting medication monitoring and appropriate follow-up.

Assisting with prescribing safety searches, audits and quality improvement work. Supporting implementation of local and national prescribing guidance. Liaising with community pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare professionals where appropriate.

Contributing to the management of patients with long-term conditions as knowledge and competence develop. Participating in clinical meetings, training and multidisciplinary discussions. Maintaining accurate, timely and appropriate clinical documentation.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills Essential . Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. .

Qualifications

Essential . MPharm degree or equivalent recognised pharmacy qualification. .

Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or due to . obtain registration before commencement of employment. .

Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and skills. Desirable . Independent Prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake relevant training. .

Additional training relevant to primary care or medicines optimisation. Experience Essential . Experience gained through foundation pharmacist training, pre-registration training, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy or other pharmacy settings. .

Experience of communicating effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. . Experience of working as part of a team. .

Demonstrates an understanding of medicines safety and professional pharmacy practice.
