About the role

Job summary

Plym Bridge House is a Tier 4 Unit for Children & Young People who are experiencing mental health needs that admission to hospital. This includes PTSD, Trauma, Psychosis, Depression, OCD, Anorexia & other non-specific eating disorders. we also support young people with neurodiversity needs as part of their presentation.

Plym Bridge House is a regionally respected team who engages in rewarding work with the young people in our care & is also part of the South West Provider Collaborative whose aim is to improve the care pathways for young people & keep them closer to home.

We have an exciting opportunity for a skilled, compassionate & caring staff nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team at Plym Bridge House.

You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the young people in our care & you will need to be committed to providing care of the highest quality to the young people we support.

Candidates will need to possess excellent communication skills & empathy as you will be working alongside other professionals, families and carers. The successful candidate will work in an established professional MDT team; supporting the clinical team in the delivery of therapeutic programmes & plans of care.

We offer a positive & supportive environment to work in, with in-house bespoke training relating directly to CAMHS & inpatient care.

All Livewell Southwest staff are expected to able & willing to work across a 7 day service Job Share(s) Considered Main duties of the job To improve children and young peoples mental health through effective management of a CAMHS Tier 4 unit providing safe, effective, cost efficient, timely and accessible services that are in accordance with national and local priorities and responsive to the needs and views of local children, young people and their families.

To offer psychological/Mental Health nursing care and therapy (at a skill level appropriate to banding), to young people who are inpatients. To do this as part of a coordinated team, under the guidance and leadership of the nurse with continuing responsibility for the treatment programme.

To act as a named nurse in the assessment, planning & provision of nursing care.

To contribute to the establishment of a positive working environment and open learning culture, which fosters high morale and commitment amongst all staff, and that promotes wellbeing, personal development and continuous improvement in the standards of business activities and professional practice.

Utilise nursing skills to assess, plan and implement and deliver care to patients who are in an acute phase of their illness. Organise the provision of care and act as Named Nurse/Associate Nurse for a specified group of patients.

To function as a member of a multidisciplinary team taking appropriate responsibility for the implementation of decisions made by the team. Ensure planned nursing care is implemented and evaluated; take appropriate action in the light of evaluation. Participate in training programmes for both trained and untrained staff.

In conjunction with the university and Senior Staff Nurses ensure training programmes/objectives for learner nurses are implemented. To be responsible for implementing drug administration procedures according to laid down policy. Maintain standards of care to highest level within available resources.

Maintain confidentiality in respect to the patient at all times. To actively participate in line management with senior and junior members of staff. To liaise effectively with other wards and services.

To develop and maintain relationships with providers statutory and non-statutory. To maintain confidentiality in respect of the patient/client at all times. Communicate clearly with patients, their families and all other mental health professional groups about their health problems and care plan.

Actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives, e.g. clinical audit, essence of care or clinical policy development. Play an active role in CPA multi disciplinary reviews and ward rounds, reporting on the nursing assessment of the patients progress and participating further in M/D Care Planning.

Ensure that patients are encouraged to play a part in the Care Plan and to sign it; and ensuring they receive a copy of it. This is to promote person-centred planning. Participate in the Glenbourne wide response team which responds to any untoward incident.

Provide mentorship for students. Attend and participate in meetings, i.e. Case Conference, Mental Health review tribunals.

Risk Management : In Accordance with the Risk Management Strategy, employees will participate, whenever required, with the risk management process.

They will support line managers by attending mandatory and statutory training, completing incident/accident forms for every adverse event or near miss that occurs, report all defects and complaints, and communicate any dangerous situation to individuals potentially at risk.

You must co-operate with those in authority and others in meeting the statutory requirements and in following policies and procedures. A copy of the Health and Safety Policy is available from the Healthnet or from the Risk Management Department.

You may be required to be able to undertake physical intervention training and participate in physical intervention as part of a physical intervention team and BLS.

Infection Control: Livewell South-West is determined to eradicate healthcare-acquired infection and puts a great deal of emphasis on the responsibility of all staff to ensure their own personal and others compliance with Infection Control (including Hand Washing) Policies.

All staff must comply with infection control policies and guidance, attend relevant updates and report issues of concern to their immediate line manager (if no action or explanation received, then it is the individuals responsibility to escalate their concerns to the Director of Operations or Chief Executives Office).

Safeguarding Children and Adults All employees have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults and are required to act in such a way that at all times safeguards their health and wellbeing.

Familiarisation with and adherence to national and local safeguarding adults and children policies is an essential requirement upon all employees.

Livewell South-West has specific safeguarding policies and in addition, employees also have a responsibility to practice and work within the multi-agency policy developed by the Safeguarding Adults Board and the Safeguarding Children Board. Staff are also required to participate in related mandatory/statutory training.

Research:

For clinical posts at bands 5 and 6, there is an expectation that engagement in research will be part of this role.

Therefore, an awareness of the value and relevance of research is expected, and the post holder should either support existing research within their specialty area as appropriate or identify opportunities to raise awareness of research possibilities.

For clinical posts at band 7 and above, the post holder will be required to actively participate in complex audits using research methodology or participate as required in clinical trials or equipment testing, and will demonstrate high level involvement in local ongoing research projects.

Sustainability and climate change: All staff are expected to take responsibility for the reduction of carbon emissions within their area of the organisation. In particular this may relate to reducing energy consumption, making low carbon travel choices, consideration of goods and services being purchased, and waste reduction.
