The role:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, serving a population of over 1.15 million people and employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical roles.

Glasgow City IJB has secured Gambling Levy funding to re-establish and significantly expand gambling harms work across the city. We are seeking a Health Improvement Senior to support the development and implementation of a whole-system, prevention-led programme aimed at reducing gambling-related harms. Working collaboratively across health, social care, third sector organisations and community planning partners, the post holder will play a key role in developing and coordinating gambling harms prevention and early intervention initiatives. The successful candidate will support workforce capacity building, strengthen support pathways, increase awareness of gambling harms within services and communities, and contribute to reducing inequalities and stigma associated with gambling-related harm.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Fixed-Term Role to 31st March 2029
  • Parkhead Hub (May also involve City Centre location - TBC)
  • 21.6 Hours per week

Key responsibilities:

The post holder will have lead responsibility for developing and delivering defined health improvement programmes that improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities across Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The role will lead on a whole-system approach to tackling gambling harms, managing multiple workstreams across Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership. Responsibilities include providing strategic and operational leadership to ensure successful programme delivery, acting in an advisory capacity to offer specialist health improvement support to colleagues and partner organisations, and undertaking programme and staff management duties. The post holder will also establish, maintain and develop effective partnerships both within NHSGGC and with external agencies to support capacity building, promote health improvement and reduce health inequalities through collaborative action and community engagement.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the health improvement and public health field, acquired through a relevant degree and specialist training to postgraduate diploma level equivalent (SCQF Level 10), and/or significant demonstrable experience in a comparable role.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to gambling harms and the wider portfolio/topic area.
  • Knowledge of health inequalities and approaches to reducing them.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed principles and practice.
  • Knowledge of Community Development principles and Community Engagement Standards.
  • Awareness of HR policies and procedures.Training and Skills
  • Project management skills with relevant training and experience of planning and organising complex programmes or activities.
  • Ability to translate health policy and strategy into effective action plans.
  • Ability to apply Service Improvement methodology within health improvement programmes.
  • Demonstrable skills gained through training, courses or practical experience relevant to areas such as Gambling Harms, Addictions and Mental Health.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret public health data.
  • Experience coordinating and organising multi-agency groups and partnerships.
  • Experience implementing national and local policies within health improvement settings.
  • Experience developing and delivering evidence-based health promotion programmes.
  • Experience providing specialist health improvement advice to reduce health inequalities and support behaviour change.
  • Proven ability to influence and deliver change through community engagement.
  • Line management experience, including supervision, staff development and work planning.
  • Awareness of budget planning processes and financial governance requirements.What we offer:
