About the role

Purpose of the Role The ICT Apprentice will support Cerulean's technical team in delivering high-quality IT support and networking services to a wide range of clients. The role provides valuable hands-on experience across technical support, network administration, system maintenance, troubleshooting, and customer service. Working alongside experienced IT professionals, the apprentice will develop practical skills in supporting IT infrastructure, diagnosing technical issues, configuring devices, and maintaining secure and reliable network environments. This role offers an excellent opportunity to build a successful career within the IT and networking industry while working towards a recognised qualification.

Key Responsibilities Duties

The apprentice will support the service desk and technical teams in delivering effective IT and network support services. .

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the diagnosis and resolution of hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Providing first-line technical support to users via telephone, email, remote access, and ticketing systems.
  • Supporting the installation, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and networking equipment.
  • Assisting with the setup and administration of user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Supporting the monitoring and maintenance of client networks, servers, and cloud-based systems.
  • Assisting with routine system updates, security checks, backups, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintaining accurate records of support requests, technical documentation, and completed work within the service management system.
  • Escalating complex technical issues to senior engineers where appropriate.
  • Supporting network infrastructure projects, including switch, router, wireless, and connectivity deployments.  Developing an understanding of cybersecurity best practices and assisting with maintaining secure IT environments.
  • Delivering excellent customer service while communicating professionally with clients and colleagues.

This role involves meaningful ICT and networking-related responsibilities that will enable the apprentice to gain practical experience and develop the technical competencies required by the Level 3 Information Communications Technician apprenticeship standard. Essential Skills and Qualities As an ICT Apprentice, you will be expected to demonstrate

  • A genuine interest in information technology, networking, and technology services.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a logical and methodical approach.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and digital technologies.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and a professional attitude.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • A willingness to learn, develop new technical skills, and undertake professional training.
  • Reliability, enthusiasm, and a positive approach to work.

Desired (but not essential )

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • An understanding of computer networking concepts such as IP addressing, Wi-Fi, routers, and switches.
  • Experience of building, configuring, or troubleshooting computers or devices.
  • A relevant IT qualification, such as GCSE Computer Science, BTEC IT, or equivalent.
