The Role

The postholder has responsibility for a portfolio of health improvement programmes across one locality or topic area with the overall aim of improving health and reducing health inequalities in line with the Local Delivery Plan, Single Outcome Agreement, and other locally and nationally identified health priorities.

The post holder has responsibility for the development and delivery of this portfolio of programmes under the direction of the Unit Health Improvement Team Leader/Senior Health Promotion Officer. The post holder is required to provide health improvement support, training and advice to colleagues and partners, providing programme management and where appropriate, staff management.

The postholder is responsible for establishing and sustaining relationships internally within NHS Lanarkshire and with key external partners and stakeholders to promote health improvement and address inequalities in health.

Working within the NHS and with partner agencies the post holder will primarily lead the development and implementation of Health Improvement programmes in line with NHS Lanarkshire strategies and local health needs.

In this key role, you will:

• Provide leadership in the locality/topic area to initiate, develop, deliver and monitor health improvement plans and programmes that prevent ill-health and protect individuals and communities.
• Each year postholder agrees a set of annual objectives with the Unit Health Improvement Team Leader/Senior Health Promotion Officer with mid and end of year reviews and complies with local professional management systems.
• Establish local partnerships to plan, develop and deliver evidence based health improvement programmes in line with local national policies to improve health and reduce inequalities within the locality.
• Where applicable provide the day to day management and supervision of the Health Improvement Practitioner(s) e.g. allocation and prioritisation of work
• Provide health improvement advice and professional support to staff in the NHS and partner agencies, to promote informed discussions, adherence to public health principles and use of sound evidence based practice to ensure the best use of resources.

What You'll Bring:

• The post holder must be qualified to degree standard.
• The post holder should have or be working towards a postgraduate qualification or have the equivalent knowledge and experience that demonstrates an understanding of health improvement/ health promotion/ public health at postgraduate level
• Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and application of appropriate public health competencies http://www.fphm.org.uk/ February 2010, or be on or working towards the UKPHR Practitioner Registration.
• Local and National Policies and Strategies that affect the health of the population
• A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.Plus experience of
• Health Promotion / Public Health / Health Improvement
• Partnership working and negotiation skills
• Contribution to policy implementation
• Budget monitoring
• Proven track record in the delivery of Health Improvement/Public Health projects
