About the role
Job summary
This role will primarily work to support the development of volunteering policy, as well as working to integrate the voluntary sector in government emergency planning and response.
Through the government’s Resilience Action Plan, we are committed to better integrating the voluntary sector in national resilience planning and this role will play an important part in delivering this. They will also develop volunteering policy, ensuring that the government creates the conditions for people to volunteer for the causes that they believe in. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changeable priorities.
Job description
We are seeking a candidate for this new, evolving role, comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. Responsibilities include:
- Flexibly responding to urgent government information requests.
- Lead the implementation of sector-focused crisis plans.
- Develop national resilience policy and support resilience exercises.
- Lead work developing volunteering policy

Essential Criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including drafting policy papers, submissions, and briefings.
- Experience of working collaboratively across teams and across departments to design and implement policy.
- Strategic thinker, able to spot opportunities across a range of policy areas.
- Experience of building strong, positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including individuals in senior positions.
- Ability to analyse and synthesise a wide range of data and insights to inform policy decisions.
- Ability to work at pace and with autonomy, including in fast-paced environments where priorities may change.
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of the broad civil society landscape.
- An understanding of national resilience policy.
- Experience of briefing senior colleagues and ministers on policy issues.

Selection process details

Further Information
If the vacancy is offered as FTA/Loan, existing Civil Servants must join on a Loan basis only. Prior agreement to be released on loan must be obtained before commencing the application process.
