Functional Skills Programme Senior Tutor (NEET)

• Location: In-person at partner locations across London and Essex (Harlow)
• Hours: Part-time opportunity (minimum 15 hours per week)
• Contract: Fixed-term from October 2026 to June 2027 (Programme delivery dependant)
• Salary: £26,900 per year per annum (pro rata), including £2,000 Inner London Weighting

Every year, over 200,000 young people leave school without a standard pass in GCSE English and maths. For many, this creates significant barriers to further education, employment and future opportunities.

We are now seeking passionate and experienced Functional Skills Programme Senior Tutors to support young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine high-quality tutoring with programme leadership, helping learners build confidence, improve attendance and achieve meaningful outcomes.

About the Role

As a Functional Skills Programme Senior Tutor, you will deliver engaging small-group English and/or maths tuition to learners preparing for Level 2 Functional Skills Qualifications.

Alongside teaching, you will play a key role in supporting learner engagement, attendance and achievement, working closely with Programme Coordinators, partner organisations and the wider tutoring team. You will also act as a role model for high-quality practice and contribute to the development of other tutors across the programme.

• 70% of your role will be delivering tuition
• 30% will focus on learner support, programme coordination and tutor quality assuranceWhat You'll Be Doing

Delivering High-quality Tuition

• Deliver exemplary tutoring sessions (small group, up to three learners), demonstrating an excellent understanding of the curriculum, the subject(s) and the resources.
• Adapt sessions to meet individual learner needs.
• Build positive relationships that encourage attendance, confidence and progress.
• Prepare thoroughly for sessions.
• Demonstrate expertise and professionalism as a standard for other tutors, setting a benchmark as a role model within the team.
• Demonstrate a positive attitude to professional development, by engaging with and attending our Tutor Academy seminars and workshops.
• Complete and maintain high-quality registers for sessions, to ensure attendance and learner progress is recorded accurately and is up to date.
• Create and share high-quality video reflections of your tutoring to allow for feedback and development from Get Further staff.Supporting Learner Success and Tutor Development
• Work closely with learners to overcome barriers to engagement.
• Support attendance and scheduling of sessions and assist with exam logistics where required.
• Help learners prepare for mock exams and assessments.
• Maintain accurate attendance and progress records.
• Work collaboratively with external stakeholders, where required, to support effective delivery logistics and ensure learners receive the appropriate support.
• Support tutor development through drops-ins, feedback, and sharing best practiceWhat We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Level 3 or above Teach qualifications including; PTLLS Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, Award in Education and Training (AET), CET / CETLS / CTLLS - Certificate in Education and Training, DTLLS - Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
• GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
• A-level (or equivalent) at Grade B or above in a relevant subject.
• A 2:1 degree or above (strong 2:2 applicants will be considered).
• At least three months' experience teaching or tutoring.
• Strong communication, organisational and IT skills.
• Ability to travel regularly to delivery locations.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
• Right to work in the UK.Desirable
• Experience working with NEET learners.
• Knowledge of the Further Education sector.
