The Role:

Fleet Operations & Compliance is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our unique and dynamic team of highly motivated professionals who work collaboratively to ensure the operations comply with legislative requirements.

The department works to tight timescales, statutory deadlines and therefore experience of working within a highly pressured responsive service is a must. The Fleet & Workshop Team is undergoing rapid development towards a more business driven approach and is aiming to increase the services provided. The department plays an integral part of the Council's fleet operations ensuring legal compliance in all areas. This is an essential function to support the Council in providing the services to the residents of the city.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle mechanic who has experience in all the major elements of goods vehicle repair’s including engines, transmission, braking systems and suspension including a basic knowledge of vehicle electrics. Experience of Goods Vehicle MOT preparation is desirable. Must have the ability to work on a wide variety of vehicles and plant including HGV's, LGV's and Agricultural machines.

Key Responsibilities:

Undertake the full range of repair, maintenance and servicing to external customers vehicles in accordance with Council policies and procedures, legislative requirements, manufacturers standards

To prepare Large Goods Vehicles and Light Vehicles to the standard required to pass the statutory MOT/LGV Test

To carry out MOT testing on class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and suitability testing on Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis

Improve and maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop facility

Responsibility for ensuring the safety and roadworthiness of the Council's operational fleet of vehicles, plant, trailers and equipment

About You:

• Be a time served technician with significant experience or hold an appropriate NVQ Level3 qualification
• Willing to work towards qualifying as DVSA recognised MOT tester for class's 4, 5 and 7
• Thorough knowledge of M.O.T. Testing, standards and procedures
• Thorough knowledge of Large Goods Vehicle maintenance and repair

Understanding of relevant road traffic acts and statutory requirements relating to vehicles and plant standards as prescribed by DVSA, DVLA, DOT and HSE

Hold a valid LGV category C Driving Licence and ideally category C+E Driving Licence
