Streetworks Inspector

Highways and Transport is back at North East Lincolnshire Council, creating a rare opportunity to be part of something from the beginning. 

As we and grow the Streetworks function, we’re bringing together talented people who want to make a real difference to how the service is delivered. Working as part of a small team, you will help maintain and improve our highway network, by carrying out inspections of works undertaken by Statutory Undertakers and others working in the highway to ensure safety and compliance with relevant conditions.

What will your day look like?

As a Senior Technician (Streetworks Inspectors) you'll mainly be out and about, on a typical day, carrying out inspections in line with the North East Lincolnshire Permit Scheme (NELPS), New Roads & Street Works Act (1991) and associated Codes of Practice for Safety at Street Works and Road Works. 

You will need to confidently engage with contractors working on site, helping to translate statutory guidance and codes of practice to ensure that works are completed safely and in line with permit conditions.

This is a hands-on technical role, where based on your professional assessment of a site, you will need to collect and record a variety of accurate data using a hand-held tablet computer.

You will be visiting multiple sites across North East Lincolnshire on a daily basis so the ability to transport yourself efficiently and effectively between sites is essential. In addition, you will need to regularly attend the office base for meetings and to collaborate with colleagues. 

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with experience in a relevant technical or professional role who is comfortable working with data, records and statutory processes.

You’ll need to be organised, accurate and able to manage your own time effectively to meet the requirements of the role. As the role is mainly site-based, you'll need to be happy to work in all conditions. 

Experience of preparing or contributing to a Local Authority permit scheme would be helpful, along with experience of engaging with the public deal with queries or provide technical information in a way that is easily understood.
