The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an Architect & Senior Developer in the IT Department in the City of London to design and deliver high-quality software solutions across the firm’s trading, operational and regulatory landscape, with a focus on enhancing in-house systems and integrating front, middle and back office platforms. The role includes responsibility for defining and evolving solution architecture, ensuring scalability, performance and alignment with architectural principles and best practices. You will collaborate closely with product owners, stakeholders and developers to translate requirements into secure, maintainable code and ensure robust, well-documented releases.
Your Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities: (8-10 key responsibilities)
- Oversee the firm's architecture across trading, clearing, and post-trade systems and the integrations with CCPs, exchanges, data and platform vendors, as well as customers
- Direct the modernisation of integration patterns and frameworks, reinforcing strong security principles and practices
- Steer the data architecture strategy, supporting business objectives and ensuring data quality, ownership, security and accessibility.
- Chair architecture governance forums, encouraging participation and debate while driving timely, effective architectural decisions.
- Produce clear architecture documentation, architectural decision records, target-state blueprints, and other artefacts for review and audit
- Design resilient systems meeting the firm's RTO/RPO requirements and FCA operational resilience obligations
- Meet regulatory obligations by design, including FCA/ESMA EMIR & MiFID II requirements, DORA as well as other relevant, impactful global obligations
- Contribute to the firm’s change management and incident management frameworks.
- Mentor and upskill engineering teams on architecture principles, cloud-native patterns, & best practices
- Drive adoption of DevSecOps practices and infrastructure-as-code across the technology teams
- Support defining and governing the firm’s use of AI, ensuring solutions are secure, explainable, and compliant with regulatory expectations, data protection requirements, and internal risk guidance.
Your Profile
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Deep domain knowledge of financial markets technology within an FCM, clearing broker, investment bank, exchange, or vendor
- Proven experience designing systems for listed derivatives, securities, and/or FX processing
- Thorough understanding of order processing, execution, risk management, margining, collateral, valuation and give-up processing
- Strong knowledge of FIX protocol, along with CCP or vendor connectivity (e.g. ICE Clearing, Eurex, LME, CME etc)
- Extensive experience with event-driven architectures, message brokers (Kafka, IBM MQ), and real-time data pipelines
- Knowledge of UK/EU/US regulatory frameworks: EMIR, MiFID II, CASS, MAR, DORA, CFTC
- Proficiency in microservices architectures, as well as containerisation
- Cloud architecture expertise (preferably Azure), with experience migrating or running regulated financial workloads in cloud environments
- Expertise in .Net / C# / SQL Server; React.js and Python desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to both C-suite and technical stakeholders
- University degree (ideally in Computer Science or related field)
- 10+ years of software engineering or infrastructure experience, with at least 3 years in a senior architecture role
