Service Director, Street Scene, Fleet and Highways
Service Director, Street Scene, Fleet and Highways at Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in Rotherham, South Yorkshire
About the role
There has never been a more exciting time to join Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.
Rotherham is a borough with growing confidence, strong leadership and a clear vision for the future. Significant investment, ambitious regeneration programmes and a renewed focus on shaping the future of place are transforming communities across the borough and creating opportunities for residents, businesses and visitors alike. The Council is increasingly outward-looking, ambitious in its aspirations and determined to play a leading role within South Yorkshire and beyond.
Serving more than 265,000 residents, the Council is focused on creating thriving neighbourhoods, expanding economic opportunity, supporting healthier communities and delivering a cleaner, greener environment. This commitment is backed by one of the most significant regeneration and investment programmes in the borough's history, including major town centre developments, infrastructure projects and improvements to communities across Rotherham.
To support the next phase of this journey, we have created a number of new senior leadership positions within our Regeneration and Environment Directorate. These roles represent a significant investment in leadership capacity and a clear statement of intent about the future.
About You
You will be an experienced operational leader who thrives on making a visible difference.
You may currently be leading highways, environmental services, waste, fleet, transport, infrastructure or other large scale frontline services. Whatever your background, you will have a track record of leading significant teams, navigating complexity and delivering meaningful improvements for communities.
Most importantly, you will be motivated by impact.
You will be excited by the opportunity to shape newly created leadership arrangements, influence organisational direction and build services that residents can see working every day. You are someone who combines strategic thinking with delivery focus, understands how to work effectively within political environments and can inspire confidence amongst elected members, staff, partners and communities alike.
You will also bring the ambition and resilience needed to drive change, challenge existing approaches and create a culture focused on performance, accountability and continuous improvement. This is a role for somebody who wants to leave a legacy, not simply maintain the status quo.
About the Role
As Service Director, Street Scene, Fleet and Highways, you will lead some of the Council's most visible, politically important and high impact services. Every decision you make will influence how residents experience their neighbourhoods, how businesses view the borough and how confidently elected members can deliver on their commitments to local communities
Your portfolio includes waste and street scene services, highways and flood risk, and fleet and transport services. Together, these services touch every resident and every community across Rotherham.
You will join at a pivotal moment. The Council has already invested in creating a new leadership structure and is looking for a leader who can build momentum, strengthen performance and help shape the future direction of these essential services. Key opportunities include driving improvement across fleet services, delivering fleet modernisation programmes, embedding sustainable financial management and ensuring services are equipped to meet changing expectations around environment, infrastructure and public services.
Importantly, your influence will extend well beyond your own portfolio. As a member of the leadership team and the council's wider senior leadership community, you will contribute to corporate priorities, strategic decision making and the future direction of the organisation. These are roles with genuine influence, visibility and reach.
For the right leader, this is an opportunity to shape services at scale, influence the future of a borough with growing ambition and deliver tangible improvements that residents will see and experience every day.
