About the Client

Our client is a growing electronic money institution, providing multi-currency accounts, payment processing, card acquiring, and mass payout services for online businesses. Operating across sectors such as e-commerce, iGaming, affiliate marketing, and Forex, they offer services to high-risk verticals and are active participants in SEPA, SEPA Instant, and SWIFT networks.

Role Overview

Take on a challenging position as the Deputy MLRO / Head of Risk, where you will have the opportunity to drive the compliance and risk agenda within a fully remote setting. You will manage the entire merchant risk lifecycle, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and optimizing risk strategies to support the company’s growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full merchant risk lifecycle: onboarding due diligence, ongoing monitoring, EDD reviews, escalations, and remediation.
  • Prepare responses to EDD and compliance requests from IPS (Visa, Mastercard), including handling VIRP, BRAM, TLD, and merchant monitoring cases.
  • Analyze complex merchant cases, including MCC accuracy, transaction laundering, website and traffic analysis, and business model validation.
  • Draft defensible argumentation and remediation plans for IPS, sponsor banks, and commercial partners.
  • Act as deputy to the MLRO on Financial Crime and AML matters: SAR reviews, escalations, sanctions, and PEP handling, transaction monitoring oversight.
  • Support merchant onboarding and underwriting functions to ensure a balanced, risk-based approach.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on background in Acquiring Risk, AML, Financial Crime, and Compliance.
  • Solid knowledge of the UK regulatory framework (FCA regime) and Visa/Mastercard scheme rules.
  • Proven track record handling IPS EDD and compliance requests.
  • Deep understanding of MCC classification, transaction laundering typologies, and high-risk business models.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze complex merchant cases and draft remediation plans.
  • Languages: English, Russian.
  • Experience in fintech.
