About the role
Deykin Avenue J&I School is seeking to appoint a caring, committed and enthusiastic Learning Mentor to join our supportive school community. We are looking for a pastoral mentor who is passionate about supporting children to feel happy, safe, valued and ready to learn. The successful candidate will provide nurture and pastoral support to children across the school, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and develop positive relationships and confidence. Working closely with the school leadership team, you will help to identify individual needs and provide targeted support where it is needed most. You will build trusting relationships with children, helping them to feel listened to, understood and that they truly belong at Deykin Avenue.
About the role
As a Learning Mentor, you will:
Provide nurturing and pastoral support to children across the school.
Build positive, trusting relationships with children and help them to develop confidence and resilience.
Work closely with the leadership team to identify children who may benefit from additional support.
Provide individual and small-group interventions based on identified needs.
Support children's emotional wellbeing, behaviour, relationships and engagement with learning.
Help children to develop strategies to manage their emotions and overcome barriers to learning.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive and welcoming school environment where every child feels a sense of belonging.
Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and families to ensure children receive appropriate support.
Monitor and review the impact of pastoral support and contribute to relevant records and discussions.
About you

Is caring, approachable and genuinely passionate about supporting children.
Has experience of working with children in a school or similar setting.
Can build positive relationships with children and earn their trust.
Has a nurturing and inclusive approach.
Is able to recognise when a child may need additional emotional, pastoral or learning support.
Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Can work effectively as part of a wider team.
Is organised, reliable and able to use their initiative.
Is committed to promoting the wellbeing, inclusion and success of every child.
