A career-defining leadership role in a place you’ll love to live and work
NHS Fife is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic independent prescribing pharmacist to join the Adult Weight Management Service (AWMS) as Senior Pharmacist - Weight Management Services. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in delivering NHS Fife's new Adult Weight Management Service Medicine Pathway, supporting patients with severe obesity to access evidence based pharmacological treatment alongside specialist dietetic, psychological and physical activity interventions.
As a Senior Pharmacist for Weight Management Services, you will:
- Act as the designated pharmacist prescriber within the Adult Weight Management Service Medicine Pathway.
- Undertake clinical assessment and virtual consultations for patients referred through the Adult Weight Management Service.
- Initiate, prescribe and monitor GLP-1/GIP-RA therapies for weight management.
- Review treatment effectiveness, manage adverse effects and determine continuation or discontinuation of therapy.
- Work collaboratively with Dieticians, Health Care Support Workers, Psychologists and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to pathway development, audit, evaluation and service improvement.
- Support governance and medicines optimisation relating to weight management medicines.
- Help shape one of NHS Scotland's emerging weight management medicine services.
Work within a truly multidisciplinary service
You'll join a supportive and innovative multidisciplinary team bringing together expertise from pharmacy, dietetics, psychology and healthcare support workers to deliver NHS Fife's new weight management Medicine Pathway. The service has been designed to provide patients with holistic, evidence-based care, combining pharmacological treatment with specialist lifestyle, behavioural and
nutritional support.
Help shape a new and evolving service
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of one of NHS Fife's most significant new clinical services. As the dedicated pharmacist prescriber within the Adult Weight Management Service, you will play a pivotal role in establishing safe, effective and equitable access to weight management medicines while helping to shape future service delivery models.
Advanced clinical practice with real impact
You will work directly with patients living with obesity and associated comorbidities, undertaking clinical assessment, prescribing, monitoring treatment outcomes and providing expert medicines advice as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your work will contribute to improving health outcomes, reducing health inequalities and supporting person-centred care across Fife.
Professional development and innovation
The role offers opportunities to contribute to pathway development, clinical governance, evaluation, audit and quality improvement. You will work alongside experienced clinical leaders within Pharmacy and Dietetics while helping to develop an emerging area of practice within NHS Scotland.
Existing permanent employees must first discuss this opportunity with their substantive line manager. The secondment policy can be found here Hub • Blink (joinblink.com) If you do not have approval for a secondment from your current line manager, you will not be able to progress your application for a fixed term post. External applicants, with continuous NHS Service, must also have in place a secondment agreement, from their existing board to apply for this post.
