About the role
Job summary
Please note that this role is offered as part time only and the successful candidate will be expected to work on a part time basis (22.2 hrs)
The Field Intelligence Officer role will support activity being undertaken by the RIHSc team and the wider Building Safety Regulator (BSR), including criminal and regulatory investigations, to ensure that it fulfils its statutory duties under the Building Safety Act 2022.
This will include (but not limited to) the receipt, assessment, and processing of criminal and regulatory intelligence to assess threat, risk and harm and maintaining data integrity and governance whilst doing so. Supporting regulatory activity through the production of intelligence products, to inform decision making. Identify and maintain networks of internal and external stakeholder engagements to support the BSR mission to maintain and improve safety standards for the built environment. The work will require close attention to detail, ability to assimilate information and produce clear and evidenced reports.
Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 14.8 hours per week.
Job description
The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) became an Arm's Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) on 1st June 2026.
The BSR is a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees are Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants.
All employees will have access to:

Key Responsibilities
- Receive and assess intelligence to disseminate to relevant parties, in line with confidentiality, sensitivity and relevant legislation to ensure intelligence is processed correctly.
- Conducting focused research to produce intelligence and/ or inform analytical / intelligence products, including collecting, collating, and evaluating information from a wide variety of open and closed sources.
- Prepare intelligence products to assist regulatory decision-making.
- Collaborating, engaging, and corresponding with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintaining accurate information on a case management system and intelligence database.
- Identifying, collecting, and acquiring relevant and credible intelligence that can be developed to inform progression of work.
- Adhere to all legal frameworks, key working principles, policies, and guidance relevant to the role to ensure information and intelligence is handled and processed legally.
- Work with colleagues across BSR and beyond to deliver key objectives.

Essential Skills & Criteria
- Demonstratable experience in a technical intelligence role within law enforcement or regulatory regime. (Lead criterion)
- Demonstratable practical understanding and experience of legislation relating to the control and processing of information particularly the Data Protection Act, General Data Protection Regulations, the Freedom of Information Act, the Human Rights Act, Criminal Procedures and Investigation Act and other relevant legislation relevant to the BSA 2022.
- Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model and the intelligence cycle.
- Familiarity with digital tools and platforms used to provide intelligence support to criminal or regulatory investigations, delivering prevention, disruption, and enforcement outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, taking into consideration the best methods of communication for intended audiences.
- Confident building professional relationships to enable sharing of knowledge and information.
- Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) accreditation (Intelligence Officer) or the ability to obtain this accreditation within 18 months of employment (or equivalent)

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

Sift Information
The sift will take place during week commencing 5th of October 2026 when you will be assessed on your Personal Statement.

Interview Information
Interviews will take place during week commencing 12th of October 2026 when you will be assessed against you will be assessed against the advertised Behaviour listed in the advert. You will also be assessed on your Technical Skill, your experience and Strength based questions.
As part of your interview, you will be required to deliver a 5 minute presentation. Further details of this will be sent to candidates invited to interview.
