Job summary
The purpose of Arms and Services is to support our people and families throughout their career and beyond to enable operational effectiveness and enhance Army and Regimental ethos and identity. This is achieved through 14 RHQ Corps HQs which support all the capbadges of the British Army. A&S also manages Army supported museums (through the Heritage and Museums Branch) and provides advice on Army and Tri-Service ceremonial events through PS12. HQ A&S is a small HQ which provides command and enabling support to these organisations.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
As the Information Manager, you will be the lead adviser for information management, governance and data protection across A&S. Working with military and civilian colleagues, you will influence how information is created, managed, protected and shared, ensuring compliance while enabling effective decision making.
You will play a key role in promoting best practice, improving information flows and supporting digital transformation initiatives across the organisation.
Main Role Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and maintain information management policies, processes and standards, ensure information is captured, stored, organised, shared, retained and disposed of in accordance with legal, regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Promote good information governance, data quality, records management and knowledge management practices across the organisation.
- Act as the focal point for information assurance, data protection, records management and information lifecycle management.
- Support compliance with relevant legislation and policy, including data protection, freedom of information, security classification and records retention requirements.
- Manage information risks, identifying weaknesses in processes, systems or behaviours and recommending improvements.
- Work with stakeholders to improve information flows, reporting, collaboration and access to reliable information.
- Support digital transformation activity by ensuring information requirements, ownership, metadata and governance are properly defined.
Person specification
Essential Skills Required:
- Experience of providing advice, guidance and briefings to a wide range of stakeholders, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse organisations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain productive working relationships across civilian and military communities.
- Experience of information management and/or data protection, with a sound understanding of relevant legislation, policies and governance requirements.
- Ability to understand, apply and promote information and data protection standards, ensuring compliance across an organisation.
- Experience of identifying opportunities to improve processes and deliver efficiencies through continuous improvement activities.
- Ability to use digital tools and technology to improve efficiency and support business outcomes.
- Experience of supporting and implementing organisational change, including engaging stakeholders, explaining the rationale for change and helping others adapt successfully.
- Ability to encourage innovation and gather ideas from a range of sources to improve services and ways of working.
Training - The following training, along with other mandatory departmental requirements, will be provided and can be completed after appointment if not already held. Where required, reasonable travel and subsistence expenses may be claimed.
