The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join NHS Lanarkshire's Energy Limiting Conditions (ELC) Specialist Team, a multidisciplinary symptom management service supporting people living with moderate to severe energy limiting conditions including ME/CFS, Long Covid, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and related conditions. The service has expanded following continued Scottish Government investment and now provides specialist assessment, rehabilitation and self-management support across Lanarkshire.

Working alongside very a supportive team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, a Psychologist and an Assistant Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering holistic, person-centred care to individuals whose symptoms significantly impact their daily functioning, participation and quality of life. The inclusion of a dedicated Dietitian within the new NHSL ELC service is consistent with national guidance and addresses a recognised area of clinical need within this patient population.

As an Advanced Practitioner Dietitian, you will:

• Provide specialist dietetic assessment and intervention for individuals with energy limiting conditions.
• Support patients experiencing nutritional challenges associated with fatigue, autonomic dysfunction, gastrointestinal symptoms, food intolerances, weight management issues and symptom fluctuation.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary planning and goal setting.
• Develop and deliver patient education, self-management resources
• Provide expert advice and training to colleagues within the ELC team and wider NHS Lanarkshire Dietetic services.
• Work collaboratively with primary care, community services, specialist teams and partners.
• Contribute to service evaluation, quality improvement and ongoing development of this innovative service.

We are looking for a Dietitian who:

• Is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Has experience working with adults with long-term conditions, rehabilitation, chronic illness, mental health or community services.
• Demonstrates excellent communication and person-centred care skills.
• Is able to work autonomously whilst contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Has an interest in supporting individuals with complex fatigue, long-term conditions and symptom management and the motivation to develop advanced learning.
• Has knowledge of behaviour change approaches and self-management principles.
• Is committed to service development, innovation and continuous quality improvement.

Previous experience of working with Long Covid, ME/CFS, POTS, rehabilitation services or complex fatigue presentations would be advantageous but is not essential.

This is a permanent 0.2WTE (1 day). This working day is flexible.

In this key role, you will:

Assess, develop and implement Dietetic treatment programmes within a specialist field

Develop specialised treatment programmes and discharge planning as well as specific interventions, including cognitive behavioural therapy, relapse prevention, on going counselling, monitoring mental and physical health of patients through regular assessment and review of treatment plan.

To undertake comprehensive Dietetic assessment of patients with diverse and highly complex presentations and multi-pathologies.

To appropriately select and use standardised and non standardised assessments and document outcomes.

To assess clinical risk and manage this effectively within both hospital and community settings.

Co-ordinate a multi agency approach to patients assessed needs. Supervise and instruct junior staff in same

What You'll Bring:

Registered Dietitian with valid HCPC Registration

Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level

Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.

Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality

Advanced Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality.

Evidence of application of advanced practice skills in speciality and applying clinical judgement

Evidence of further developed knowledge and experience in management and/or leadership.

Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
