About the role
This permanent role sits within our Legal Regulatory and Environment Team and offers high-profile highways and planning work that shapes development, infrastructure and communities across Shropshire. You will provide trusted advice to members and officers and support lawful, effective decision-making across the Council. You will join a collaborative team with a varied caseload and scope to develop your expertise.
As a Highways and Planning Lawyer you will be one of our go-to experts in the area of highways and planning law. You will undertake all kinds of planning and highways work including drafting and negotiating s38, s278 and s106 agreements, advising and taking part in Judicial reviews and planning appeals, advising on, drafting and serving various notices under the Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country Planning Act 1990 amongst others, advising on rights if way, traffic orders, enforcement and lawful development, and will assist with and provide prompt, clear and accurate written and verbal advice in the specialist field of highways and planning law.
There may also be opportunities to work across wider regulatory matters including housing, licensing and employment. We welcome applications from lawyers with experience in, or a strong interest in developing, one or more of the following areas:
- Planning – section 106 agreements, appeals, judicial review, enforcement and related advisory work
- Highways – section 38 and section 278 agreements, stopping up orders, Highways Act notices, rights of way and related advisory work
We are looking for a motivated, solution-focused lawyer who can build strong relationships, give clear advice and manage a varied workload confidently. You may already have relevant experience or bring transferable skills and the ambition to develop further in a supportive team. We offer flexible and agile working, with occasional office attendance in Shropshire required.
