NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.

Are you looking for a rewarding intelligence role where your work can directly influence decisions that improve health and reduce inequalities across our communities? NHS Lothian’s Directorate of Public Health and Health Policy is seeking a Senior Health Intelligence Analyst to join our Public Health Intelligence Team (permanent, full time, Agenda for Change Band 7).

As a senior member of the team, you will work collaboratively with colleagues and partners across the domains of public health to produce high-quality public health intelligence. This intelligence informs strategy, policy, service planning and decision making as NHS Lothian and our partners work to improve people’s lives by reducing health inequalities and improving health.

The main departmental office is at Waverley Court (beside Waverley Station) in Edinburgh. We work on a hybrid basis with a mix of office and home working. As with many senior roles, some travel will be required to attend meetings and work closely with colleagues and partners across NHS Lothian and partner organisations.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced analyst who can confidently lead and prioritise complex programmes of work, taking responsibility for the planning, analysis, interpretation and communication of evidence-informed public health intelligence.

You will bring substantial experience of quantitative analysis within public health, healthcare or a related setting. Applicants with strong technical skills in R, R Shiny, SQL and Oracle are particularly encouraged to apply.

We are also interested in candidates with experience of applying intelligence and evidence across the ‘knowledge-to-action’ cycle translating data and evidence into actionable insights that support improvement and decision-making. Those with public health science skills across data intelligence, evidence synthesis and formal evaluation are also encouraged to apply, as are those with a mixed-methods or public health research background.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for candidates to work as part of a highly skilled team while contributing to the priorities of one of Scotland’s largest Public Health departments. Candidates will have a degree plus additional specialist knowledge to SCQF Level 11 in relevant field e.g. epidemiology, research methods, information analysis, statistics and/or qualitative methodology.
