Adapting to New UK Advertising Regulations

Isaac Das 路 6 Aug 2026

The goalposts keep moving on UK advertising rules, specifically the updated guidance from the Advertising Standards Authority that came into effect last month, which has major implications for our social media campaigns. We have already had to pull a few ads due to non-compliance, and I am worried about the financial impact this will have on our marketing budget. As someone who oversees our marketing team, I want to know how other companies are handling these new regulations, particularly when it comes to ensuring that their influencer partnerships are transparent and compliant. How do you ensure your advertising is meeting the new standards, and what steps are you taking to educate your team on these changes?

I've found that using a tool like Brandwatch to monitor our social media campaigns has helped us stay on top of compliance issues, we've set up alerts for 50 key terms related to our brand and industry. We've also reduced our monthly ad spend by 20% since implementing this system, which has given us a bit of a buffer in case we need to make any last-minute changes to our campaigns.

Our team got burned by this exact issue a few months ago when we launched a new campaign on Facebook and Instagram, we had to pull about 20 ads because they didn't meet the new standards. I was surprised by how strict the ASA is being with influencer partnerships, we're now using a tool called AdEspresso to help us keep track of our ads and make sure they comply. We've also started working with a specialist consultant who's been a huge help in getting our marketing team up to speed on the latest regulations, she's saved us a lot of hassle and expense already.

We've had to retrain our entire marketing team on the new ASA rules and it's been a costly exercise, especially since we're using paid ads on Facebook and Instagram to reach our target audience.

We're seeing similar issues with our influencer partnerships, having to rebrief them all on the new ASA rules to avoid any more ad pulls.
