Managing Remote Worker Visibility in a Post-Pandemic World

Franklyn Mahmood 路 6 Aug 2026

My team leads openly admit they cannot keep track of what their remote workers are doing, we have tried using project management tools but they do not seem to be working as we thought they would. We have a lot of workers who are now full-time remote and it is causing issues with communication and trust. How do we make sure our remote workers are staying on task and meeting their deadlines without being too intrusive, I feel like we are losing that personal touch that we had in the office.

I've seen companies try to implement daily check-in calls with remote workers, but that just seemed to create more meetings and less actual work getting done, we cannot seem to find a balance between staying informed and avoiding micromanaging.

Honestly, I think the issue here is that your team leads are struggling to let go of the old office mentality, where they can see what everyone's doing all the time, and that's causing them to micromanage, which is never going to work with remote workers, we've been using Trello and Slack to keep everyone on track at our company and it's been a breeze.

I think we're overcomplicating things by trying to replicate the office environment remotely. We cannot expect remote workers to be constantly available on video calls or instant messaging, it's just not how people work best when they're at home.

Small note on this. I think we're overestimating the problem, we've got 80% of our team using Trello to track progress and it's working pretty well, I've also seen teams that use Slack for daily check-ins and that seems to keep everyone on the same page. We cannot expect to monitor every move our remote workers make, that's just not feasible or healthy, so we should focus on setting clear goals and deadlines instead, like we do with our 30-day sprints in Asana.
