Adapting Sales Strategies to EU Data Regulations

Roger Bishop 路 5 Aug 2026

Adapting our sales approach has been slow going against the new EU data regulations that came into effect this month, and I am finding it tough to get our sales team up to speed. The regulations have changed how we can collect and use customer data, and we do not want to risk any fines or damage to our reputation. As someone who oversees sales and business development, I am worried that our current strategies are no longer compliant, so what are some effective ways to retrain our sales team and update our processes to meet these new regulations? We need to make sure we are still able to effectively target and engage with our customers while being compliant.

I've found that creating a simple data handling checklist for our sales team to follow has really helped, we use a tool like Trello to keep it updated and accessible to everyone.

We've had to overhaul our CRM system to ensure compliance, but I'm curious, what specific aspects of the EU data regulations are causing the most headaches for your sales team?

I tried bringing in a data compliance consultant to give our sales team a crash course on the new regulations, but to be honest it fell flat - they just couldn't relate the theoretical stuff to our actual sales processes. We spent a few thousand pounds on the training and I'm not convinced it was worth it, as we're still getting queries from the team about what they can and can't do. I'm thinking of trying a more practical approach, like creating some real-life scenario workshops using our own CRM system, to see if that helps them get to grips with the changes.

Genuinely useful thread. I've found that creating a shared doc with our sales team, where we track updates to the regulations and note any changes to our processes, has really helped us stay on top of things, we use Notion to keep it all organized and accessible.
