Staffing Challenges with IR35 Reforms

Maha Das · 5 Aug 2026

Staffing our finance projects has been rough since the IR35 reforms kicked in, we have seen a lot of contractors opting out of working with us due to the changes in tax rules. This has left us with a shortage of skilled workers, particularly in areas like financial modelling and accounting. We do not know how to attract and retain contractors under these new rules, so I was wondering what strategies other companies are using to deal with this issue. Are there any creative ways to restructure contracts or benefits to make working with us more appealing to contractors?

I've found that offering a clear explanation of the project scope and expected outcomes helps to attract contractors who are willing to work with us under the new IR35 rules. We've started including a detailed breakdown of the project timeline and payment structure in our initial outreach emails, which seems to be helping to build trust with potential contractors. Our finance team has also been using a tool called Xero to streamline our payment processes, which has made it easier for us to work with contractors and keep track of their hours and expenses.
