Managing Remote Workers' Expectations on UK Summer Bank Holidays

Brandon Hicks · 1 Aug 2026

Setting clear policies has defeated me so far for our remote workers, we have a lot of staff who work from home or abroad and they do not always understand our company's stance on UK summer bank holidays. We have had a few issues where staff have taken time off without realizing it was not a company-recognized holiday, and this has caused some frustration among our management team. As someone who oversees a team with a lot of remote workers, I want to know how others are handling this, do we create a global holiday policy or stick to a UK-focused one. How do you communicate summer bank holiday expectations to your remote workers to avoid confusion and ensure everyone is on the same page?

I've found that having a centralized calendar system, like Google Calendar, really helps with this issue. What's your current process for communicating holiday schedules to remote workers, do you send out regular updates or rely on them to check the company intranet?
