Adapting to New EU Data Regulations

Responsibility for our compliance sits with me on the new EU data regulations that came into effect this month, and we have been struggling to implement the necessary changes without disrupting our operations. As an employer, I am responsible for ensuring our data processing practices meet the new standards, but I am finding it challenging to balance this with the need to maintain our competitive edge. Our employees are frustrated with the additional workload and administrative tasks required to comply with the regulations, so I need to find a way to make this process more efficient. How do other companies handle the implementation of new data regulations without overburdening their staff?

I tried using a 6-step compliance checklist from a popular data governance blog, but it didn't quite work for us as it added around 20 hours of extra work per week for our team of 10. We've since switched to using the DataGuard tool, which has been a bit more helpful, but we're still figuring out how to make it work with our existing systems.

I made a similar mistake last year when we were implementing GDPR compliance, we didn't adequately train our staff on the new procedures and it led to a bunch of avoidable errors, so I'd recommend prioritizing training and support for your employees to avoid the same pitfalls.
