Summer Internship Placement Woes

Finding suitable interns has gone badly for our summer placement program, we have had a low turnout of qualified applicants and I do not know how to attract more students to our company. We have tried partnering with local universities and posting on job boards, but so far we have only received a handful of applications. As someone who has been on both sides of the table, I understand the importance of internships for students and the benefits they can bring to employers, so I am wondering what strategies other companies are using to successfully recruit interns for their summer programs. Can anyone share their experiences or suggestions on how to make our internship program more appealing to students?
