Burning Out Our Best People

Tatyana Malone · 28 Jul 2026

Our best performers keep quietly taking on more workload, especially with the recent restructuring of our sales team, and we have not been able to recruit quickly enough to fill the gaps. We do not want to lose these talented individuals, but they're already working crazy hours and I'm concerned that if we do not find a solution soon, they'll be the next to leave. Our employee retention numbers are already a concern, and I'm worried that this will push them over the edge. How can we redistribute workload and prevent burnout among our top staff without sacrificing our quarterly targets?

Honest feedback is specific and timely. Not you need to improve but in yesterday's meeting when you interrupted Sarah, here is the impact.

Leading while looking for your own exit is exhausting. I compartmentalise. Team time is team time. Job search time is job search time.
