What is your approach to learning and development that people actually use?

Palak Gordon 路 28 Jul 2026

We offer LinkedIn Learning and people log in once and never go back. Formal training feels disconnected from real work. What L and D approaches have actually changed behaviour at your company?

We've had more success with job-specific workshops where people can practice new skills on real tasks, like using Tableau to analyze sales data.

Honestly I think we've had more success with informal workshops and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, stuff like that feels way more relevant to people's actual jobs.

Quick thought on this. We've had more success with on-the-job coaching and I'm curious, what's the average tenure of your staff, do you think that's a factor in the low uptake of LinkedIn Learning?

I've found that people actually use the learning resources when they're directly related to a project they're working on, so we've started incorporating skills training into our project planning process. We use a tool called Pluralsight to provide targeted learning paths for specific skills, and our team leads work with employees to identify areas where they need improvement. About 70% of our staff have taken advantage of this approach in the past 6 months, which is a big jump from the 10% who were using LinkedIn Learning on their own.

I've seen people actually use the training when we tie it to specific projects and performance reviews, so it's not just a generic login to LinkedIn Learning.
