Proposal AI risk lands on sales this August

Sean Huang · 12 Sep 2026

A regional sales director in Manchester is telling reps to use Copilot and ChatGPT Enterprise for RFP summaries, call notes and proposal drafts, yet legal keeps blocking uploads because customer data residency, copyright training data and provenance checks aren't clear. Procurement's asking for model cards and incident logs before a deal can move, so the rep who promised a same-day response suddenly looks like the person who caused the risk. With EU AI Act general-purpose AI obligations due on 2 August 2026, who should own the red lines: sales, legal, procurement or the tool vendor?

That regional director is playing with fire and likely violating the EU AI Act deadline of August 2nd, plus we've seen similar issues at IBM where legal blocked 40 percent of AI-generated content over data residency concerns. I am seeing this exact problem at three other clients and we cannot keep letting sales promises override compliance requirements.
