Talent acquisition teams wrestling with AI‑driven interview scoring at Lloyds

Umar Wong · 6 Sep 2026

Barclays' new AI‑powered performance dashboard went live in early June, automatically assigning rating bands to every employee based on sales data and client sentiment analysis. Because the algorithm's thresholds weren’t shared with us, several senior analysts have seen their scores dip overnight, sparking rumours that promotion cycles will now be decided by a black‑box. HR's promised a review, but the tech team says tweaking the model could take weeks, and the deadline for the next quarterly bonus is looming. Has anyone successfully negotiated a transparent audit of such AI scoring tools with senior leadership, and what steps helped keep morale intact while the model is being refined?

I totally messed up by rolling out an AI scoring model with a 75 cut‑off and never telling the team how it worked. We’ve now opened the model in PowerBI so they can see the inputs and we’re planning a weekly review to keep it transparent.

Honestly I rolled out the AI thresholds without any briefing and now the team’s stuck scrambling.

We've seen the same backlash at my firm when the AI model started shifting scores without any heads up. We pulled the model for a week, built a quick PowerBI view that shows the key drivers and shared it with the analysts, which stopped the rumours fast. If you can get a quick win like that while the tech team tweaks the algorithm, it buys you time and keeps morale from nosediving.
