TikTok Shop rollout strains attribution for UK brands

Jessica Carter · 4 Sep 2026

TikTok's new Shop feature went live across the UK last week, letting brands tag products directly in short form videos. Our media buying team’s been scrambling to map those clicks to our existing attribution model, but the platform only supplies a generic click through URL that drops all UTM parameters. We've tried using a URL shortener to preserve tracking, yet the analytics dashboard still shows a massive drop in reported conversions compared with our Google Ads data. Has anyone found a reliable way to integrate TikTok Shop sales data into a unified MarTech stack without inflating cost per acquisition?

What works for us is pulling the TikTok click ID from the redirect and appending it to a hidden field on the checkout page. We then read that field in GTM and push the original UTM values into our conversion API, so the data line up with the Google side. It adds a few seconds to the load but the attribution gap drops from around 40 % to under 10 %.

I don’t think the URL shortener trick will ever close the gap. Instead I’ve been feeding the TikTok pixel into Google Analytics via the conversion API and matching on the event timestamp, which keeps my reported lift within a 5 to 10 % variance compared with the paid channel numbers.
