CFOs grappling with new FCA stress testing timeline

Faith Rogers · 2h ago

The FCA just announced that all UK banks must submit a quarterly stress testing package by the end of September, cutting the preparation window to six weeks. Our finance team’s modelling tools still run on legacy SAS scripts, so we've got to rebuild scenarios while the risk group pushes for more granular climate related shocks. Meanwhile, senior leadership keeps asking for a board ready deck next week, and I’m worried the data quality checks won’t pass audit. Has anyone found a quick win approach to align legacy models with the new FCA timeline without overloading the team?

Last quarter I tried to rewrite our SAS stress scripts in Python over a weekend and ended up corrupting the baseline data. I’ve switched to the open source StressTestR package for quick sanity runs and it’s already shaved a day off our validation timeline.
