We put people at the heart of everything we do, including our employees, and we offer support to help you thrive and grow through training, development, flexible working, employee benefits and wellbeing support.

There’s so much happening in our thriving borough, and now is the perfect time to join our excellent 0–19 Public Health Nursing Service. Our service supports children, young people and families across Barnsley, from the early years through to school age and beyond, helping families get the right support at the right time.

About the Post

The Level 3 Business Administrator Apprentice role is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in public service while gaining a nationally recognised qualification. Although this is not a clinical role, the work you do will help frontline staff, support digital systems and contribute to the smooth running of services that make a real difference to children, young people and families every day.

You will be part of a supportive team that uses digital systems, information and service improvement to help the 0–19 Public Health Nursing Service deliver safe, effective and high-quality support. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will build confidence, learn new skills and be encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas and grow into the role.

About the Apprenticeship

As an apprentice, you will work towards a Level 3 Business Administrator qualification, developing transferable skills in communication, organisation, IT, document production, problem solving, project support, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

Your apprenticeship will combine workplace learning, supported study time and practical experience in a busy public health nursing environment. You will not be expected to know everything from day one — you will be supported every step of the way to apply your learning, grow your confidence and develop skills that can open doors to future opportunities in administration, digital support or service improvement.

About the Role

In this role, you will provide administrative and digital support that helps the service run smoothly behind the scenes. This may include helping to maintain electronic record systems, supporting system updates, assisting with templates and guidance, responding to routine queries and helping colleagues use digital tools effectively.

Your work will matter because good administration, accurate information and effective digital systems help staff spend more time supporting families. You will help gather information, document processes, maintain records, support meetings and prepare clear communications that help the service continue to improve.

As your skills develop, you will gain experience in areas such as workflow review, training material development, troubleshooting and supporting digital change. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who wants to learn, be part of a team and build a career where technology and administration help improve local services.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, motivated and keen to learn. You may be starting your first career step or looking for a new opportunity to develop your skills. If you are interested in business administration, digital systems, information, data quality and helping services work better, this could be the role for you.

You should be comfortable using IT and Microsoft Office applications, with a willingness to learn new systems such as SystmOne and other digital platforms. You will need good communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle information carefully, confidentially and professionally.

You do not need to be an expert in digital systems before you start. Full support, training and supervision will be provided. What matters most is that you are proactive, reliable, curious, willing to learn and able to work well with others in a caring and inclusive service.

This apprenticeship would suit someone who wants to build confidence, learn transferable skills and feel part of something meaningful. Above all, you will be motivated by the chance to use your learning to support a service that helps children, young people, families and staff across Barnsley every day.
