Job summary

Fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity until 1st June 2027 We are delighted to advertise vacancy for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Macmillan funded psycho-oncology service at NNUH.

Our service takes a compassionate and person-centered approach to provide specialist psychological support to adults (aged 18 and over) experiencing complex psychological difficulties relating to their diagnosis or treatment, at all stages of the cancer pathway.

The successful applicant will be based at NNUH working within adult services, and will be joining the existing Clinical Psychology team, a small supportive team working across a range of adult and paediatric health psychology specialities. The psychology team meet monthly for professional support and development.

The post holder will receive line management and supervision from the Macmillan Clinical Psychologist. Based within the Oncology Department, the post holder will work alongside the Clinical Psychologist to support the development of a substantive psycho-oncology service at NNUH.

The role will also work closely with the service lead to develop psychology services in cancer care across the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group, including James Paget University Hospital, to improve psychological care and support for staff and people affected by cancer across the region.

Interview date: to be confirmed Main duties of the job The service currently offers outpatient psychological assessment and intervention (group and individual) for people affected by cancer alongside staff support, consultation, teaching and training.

The Clinical Psychologist will be an integral member of the Macmillan funded Psycho-oncology service at NNUH working along side the wider oncology team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to optimise the care and wellbeing of people affected by cancer.

Main responsibilities will include: Working as part of the cancer MDT providing specialist psychological assessment and intervention for patients at NNUH affected by cancer, through individual and group working.

Supporting the delivery of supervision, consultation and teaching to hospital-based level 2 practitioners, including clinical nurse specialists and AHP's, as well as providing support to other staff within oncology services and the wider hospital cancer care team at NNUH and James Paget Hospital services as appropriate.

Contributing to service evaluation, clinical audit, quality improvement and research projects, including collecting, analysing and presenting data to inform service development.

Working closely with the service lead to support the development of a business case for substantive funding of the psycho-oncology service at NNUH and increasing psychologically informed cancer care across the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals group

Qualifications

Essential Registration with HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist Experience Essential Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for client's psychological care and treatment, within the context of a multi-disciplinary team.

Some relevant pre-qualification experience and a variety of clinical placements during training Skills Essential A high level ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.

Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
