Working Style:

You'll be based in the Borough for a minimum of 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community. Whether you're working on the frontline or behind the scenes, you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.

What you'll be doing:

As a Surveyor, you will manage a range of property transactions, from acquisitions and disposals to development opportunities. Working closely with the Senior Surveyor, you will make sure every project meets professional standards, complies with regulations and delivers the best value for the Council.

A major part of your work will involve carrying out valuations across the Council's diverse portfolio, covering everything from homes to commercial and mixed-use sites. You will undertake feasibility studies, assessing planning constraints, construction issues and financial viability to help shape early development decisions.

You will advise colleagues and external partners on development viability, planning matters and property law. You will also support the Social Investment and Property team by providing development and investment advice on council-owned and third-party sites.

Day to day, you will negotiate terms for acquisitions and disposals, manage transactions from start to finish and carry out market research to stay ahead of trends. You will produce valuations for purposes such as Right to Buy, lease extensions, disposals and investment decisions, always working in line with RICS standards.

You will prepare clear and accurate reports for senior stakeholders, including briefing papers and Key Decision reports. You will draft contracts and procurement documents, appoint and manage specialist consultants and oversee development projects through to completion. You will monitor risks, track progress and report updates to Lead Members and senior officers to support timely decision-making.

What you'll bring

To succeed, you must be a Member or Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). You will have proven experience carrying out valuations across residential, commercial and industrial property, along with experience producing feasibility studies that assess financial, planning and environmental factors.

You must have experience managing the full lifecycle of acquisitions and disposals, as well as preparing and submitting planning applications. Strong negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of partners, including agents, developers, solicitors, landowners and internal teams.

You will bring excellent analytical skills, strong financial modelling capability and a good understanding of property legislation, planning law, building regulations and procurement processes. You should also have experience interpreting data to identify trends, opportunities and risks.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, collaborative and highly organised, with the confidence to take initiative and manage multiple deadlines. You will need strong written and verbal communication skills to produce clear reports that support sound decision-making. Interviews will be held in person at Kensington Town week commencing 5th October 2026.

This role will require a basic DBS check.
