Job Title: Engineer - Vehicles ATMS (Automated Track Monitoring Systems) Job Title for Contract: Engineer (B3) – Vehicles Grade: Band 3 Salary: Circa £56,900 (dependent on skill, knowledge and experience) Contract Type: TfL Permanent / Full Time / Hybrid Location: Acton (including various TfL sites across London) Reference: SF 5446 Hybrid working, within this role enables a balance of 50% of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period.

Working in Vehicles Engineering Technical Services as part of the Automated Track Monitoring Systems (ATMS) Maintenance team you will be carrying out the practical day to day maintenance of remote track monitoring systems to ensure the systems are safe and working to achieve the wider business function of LUL Track Inspection Compliance.

The focus will be on laser based Automatic Track Monitoring Systems (ATMS) permanently fitted to LUL Bakerloo, Victoria and SSL passenger trains and LUL`s dedicated Track Recording Engineers Train. Additionally, you may be asked to assist on installations of other train-based monitoring systems to TfL/LUL train assets.

You’ll work in collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders such as Fleet, Track APD and OEM suppliers to deliver and develop solutions to ensure on-going operation of Track Inspection Monitoring Equipment.

Activities will focus on - but not be limited to - the practical day to day depot, workshop or office-based system planned and reactive maintenance on the track monitoring instrumentation and installations.

This includes cross-discipline aspects of the equipment so you should have excellent troubleshooting, fault finding and problem-solving capability to deal with the mechanical, IT, electrical and electronics elements of the system elements including the fibre optic and copper-based interconnections. Activities include.

Attend depots and other locations as required to carry out all aspects of maintenance in a timely manner to ensure equipment remains safe, operable and within compliance requirements. Carry out periodic calibrations and testing of inertial and laser based inertial measurement systems.

Act as Site Person in Charge (SPC) when on site/in depot. Act as a laser responsible person in charge of ATMS maintenance/calibration activities (training will be given). Take ownership and isolate ATMS trains as necessary for ATMS maintenance tasks in the depot environment.

Working alongside/with depot staff as necessary. Ensure equipment repairs are managed promptly and effectively, prioritising conflicting workstreams to minimise loss of track inspection date to our stakeholders.

Support and carry out root cause analysis of issues and provide engineering solutions to engineering and obsolescence issues in relation to the bespoke & specialised instrumentation and track inspection, noise/vibration and audio-visual monitoring systems maintained.

Communicate with a wide range of stakeholders inc. line management and others - both internal and external – to ensure they are up to date and work with them to resolve issues as they develop. Ensure all necessary tools and equipment are kept in calibration and recorded appropriately.

Ensure ATMS team records/documentation/fault issues and documentation are kept up to date as workstreams develop in a timely and efficient manner to ensure stakeholders have up to date and relevant information for wider TfL/LUL requirements.

As an integral member of the maintenance team, you will be expected to continue to develop your expertise and mentor other team members to aid wider team cross discipline knowledge. Ability to drive company vehicles between work locations to carry relevant equipment to relevant depot locations.

This involves a cross-discipline, flexible approach with regards working hours to deal with mechanical, electrical, electronic and IT based issues related to track monitoring systems as they arise. Whilst the role is predominantly days, flexibility is required to ensure access relevant trains around Fleet/Operational railway requirements.

As such, some unsocial hours evening/night and weekend working is required for which additional payment can be made. Due to the nature of the role, Activities are predominantly based out of Hearne House, Acton Town.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience (Essential unless otherwise stated) Skills Strong analytical and assessment skills Excellent communication and presentation skills Ability to creatively solve problems – establishing solutions with existing resources.

Experience of work as Site Person in Charge (desirable) Hold or ability to hold LU Depot /Track Licences such as Depot Track Competent and Individual Working Alone. Have remote track asset monitoring equipment knowledge and training (desirable). System/Instrumentation fault- finding and problem-solving ability through to resolution.

Electronic systems design, development and manufacture (desirable) Ability to develop Skills and Knowledge. Ability to drive company vehicles. Knowledge Knowledge of engineering theory and principals.

Understand equipment lifecycle and maintenance of assets. In depth knowledge & experience of Instrumentation maintenance and repair.

Knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway/transport system environment (Desirable) Knowledge of data capture and analysis techniques across multiple assets Knowledge of the asset monitoring systems fitted to LUL Rolling stock (desirable).

Knowledge of the application of Laser Safety procedures (desirable). Working knowledge of general safety requirements and procedures to work in LUL depots (desirable). Working knowledge of Train isolations and Train ownership in LUL Depots(desirable).

Experience Proven ability to collaborate and delivery across teams in different asset areas. Proven experience of developing and delivering technical projects/solutions. Experience of maintaining site or vehicle mounted Monitoring instrumentation and systems (essential).

System diagnostics and repair experience inc. electrical fault-finding and problem solving (essential). Experience of practical electrical/electronic skills such as soldering, cable repair or similar.

Experience in the mechanical fitment of components to rail vehicles (desirable). Experience of inspection of mechanical integrity and/or rail vehicle maintenance (desirable). Computer and IT equipment fault finding experience in relation to instrumentation and/or asset monitoring systems.

Knowledge and working experience of fibre optic repair & maintenance (desirable) Experience of maintenance of laser-based equipment and ensuring safe operation in depot environments (desirable). Experience in prioritising safety critical workstreams depending on business needs.

Experience in reverse engineering electronic designs, developing new processes and procedures to deal with emerging issues around equipment obsolescence and life-cycle changes (desirable).
